the problems we aim to solve

Lack of Women and Minority Women in STEM

Lack of Women and Minority Women in STEM

Women make up 22% of STEM workers, Black Women make up 2.9% of the 22%.  Lack of female role models and mentors in the STEM field discourages girls from going into STEM fields.

The Digital, STEM, and Tech Divide

Lack of Women and Minority Women in STEM

Lack of Women and Minority Women in STEM

Kids from lower socioeconomic levels are not typically found in STEM!  They encounter gaps in homework quality, digital inequality, and developmental disparities. These effects lead to fewer postsecondary graduates from low-income households, especially in STEM programs. The girls we work with lack the exposure to high tech STEM toys which their counterparts from higher socioeconomic levels have easier access to.

Not Making the Grade

Not Making the Grade

Through no fault of their own, kids from lower socioeconomic levels can’t acquire STEM skills at the same level as high-income kids, due to lack of proper recourses, and they fall behind.

how do we solve these issues?

Female STEM Role Models

Unique and Fun STEM Workshops

black female engineers mentoring young black girls in STEM

Picking up STEM is easier when you have an excellent role model. That's why our workshop leads are experts in their STEM fields. Our volunteers are passionate about the STEM work they do and bring this enthusiasm into the workshops.  These women act as role models to our young girls and provide them with insight and guidance in navigating oneself in a male-dominated industry.

Along with the STEM curriculum, we focus on other aspects of education that are often overlooked. We put an emphasis on creativity  (STEAM) within a structure that has been proven to have a positive impact on learning.  Our workshop curriculum is designed to be fun, interactive, hands-on and specifically molded just for girls. We need your help in providing high tech STEM toys like 3D Printing Machines and Robotics to our girls to help even the playing field.

Mentoring sessions which include self esteem and self efficacy building blocks are always included in our workshops. Our girls need the extra guidance to over come the obstacles they face, due to many unjust factors in our society, to stay in school and to maintain good grades.

We don’t just teach STEM for a day and expect straight As form our girls over night. We make sure we work with girls who have access to tutoring services to aid in making sure they make the grade required to go into a STEM field.
